Audition Information

Horizon is for singers who:

• are ages 26 and up

• are passionate about choral music

• have choral singing experience

• are strong sight readers

• understand the importance of blend and using appropriate choral vocal technique

Rehearsals take place on Wednesdays, 7:00-9:30 at Sargent Avenue Mennonite Church.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:

NOTE: At this time, we are accepting audition applications for lower voices (tenors/basses) only.

1. Please fill in this audition form.

2. Please send a short video of yourself singing an a cappella piece. At the end of your video, tell us a bit about yourself and why you would like to sing with Horizon. We will contact the successful applicants for an audition. Please note, we are looking for good choral tone, technique and appropriate vocal range in your song choice. Videos should be sent to info@prairievoices.ca.

At the in-person audition, applicants will be asked to:

• Sight-sing a few musical passages with varying difficulty

• Basic ear training skill evaluation (sing back simple musical passages)

• Sing simple scales and vocal exercises to determine singer’s vocal range

• Participate in a short discussion with the director and assistant

Auditions for Horizon will take place by appointment in summer 2024. Note that at this time, we are accepting auditions for lower voices (tenors/basses) only.
